It is the first disc of the fourth section of a projected tetralogy.
The album begins to resolve the issues of Claudio's quest to protect the Keywork, and sheds more light on the demise of Coheed and his wife Cambria. Also, it sheds light on the issues of the Monstar virus and Jesse's involvement in the saga. A graphic novel based upon the entire story of the album was released on the same day. This album, unlike the others, tells the story through the eyes of the writer.

The album is the third installment (but second album released) of the ongoing saga of the Keywork. The music of Coheed and Cambria is a companion to the graphic novel series The Bag On Line Adventures by lead singer Claudio Sanchez. There are two notable singles on this album, "A Favor House Atlantic" and "Blood Red Summer".

It is the second part of a projected five-part pentology. It was re-released (see The Second Stage Turbine Blade Reissue) on September 20, 2005 with three previously unreleased bonus tracks.
The album introduces us to Coheed and his wife Cambria. Coheed is infected with a serum that will grant him the power to destroy the universe if activated.
