| Biography
Hawthorne Heights is an Emo, rock band that formed in Dayton, Ohio in June of 2001. The band was originally known as "A Day In The Life" but changed its name as its music and lineup also changed. JT Woodruff is the lead vocalist and also plays guitar, Matt Ridenour is on bass guitar, Eron Bucciarelli on drums, and Casey Calvert and Micah Carli on guitar.
Hawthorne Heights is generally considered a rock band, with punk and emo influences. Sub-genres are debatable but some critics have considered emo, nu-metal, and post-hardcore as appropriate definitions. They're one of a number of popular bands, along with acts such as Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance that have caused controversy over their genre classification, as more traditional fans of genres such as emo and post-hardcore tend to reject these groups for their mainstream nature or lack of adherance to what are the tenets of the subgenres.
With three guitarists, along with a bass player and a drummer, Hawthorne Heights is somewhat distinct among rock bands; most rock bands of this size would have only two guitarists (rhythm and lead). The arrangement opens up unique opportunities for live guitar harmonies and counter-melodies. It also allows the music to transition between effects such as distortion or chorus by having another guitarist play the next part, a transition that would normally not sound "clean" live. Transitions are commonly done with two guitars in the recording studio as part of production, but this typically requires recording more than two parts at separate times and then mixing the individual tracks to achieve the desired sound.
